Wiesmann GT MF5, the 2009 FIA GT Championship official safety car

Wiesmann GT MF5 has been chosen as the Official Safety Car for this year’s GT Championship. The new series kicks off on May 3 at Silverstone in Britain.

Wiesmann GT MF5 safety car is based on the current stock version. It is powered by the same engine (5.0L V10 engine) used on BMW’s M Division for its M5 and M6 models. The 5.0L V10 engine delivers 507hp (378kW). It gives the car’s acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310km/h. The modification for Wiesmann GT MF5 safety car includes additional the aggressive rear wing and diffuser. These are important to improve the downforce on the rear axle at high speeds.

There will be 49 GT race cars at a special event at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit earlier this month. The event will be also used to debut the cars like the new R35 Nissan GT-R GT1 race car, Audi R8 LMS and the Ford GT GT1.
